Santa Maria Pear was obtained by hybridization of williams and coscia varieties in Italy. This type of pear, which is very fertile, is the second most common foreign pear cultivated in Turkey, and Bursa now is almost the centre of Santa Maria Pear production. It is harvested in the second part of July and can be stored in cold storages for a long time. While it is maturing in cold storages, its color turns yellow.
